Social media has over 5.24 billion users — about 64% of the world — with 2.11 billion people logging in daily.

Approximately 85% use it for entertainment, such as watching videos on Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram. This is a great chance to make passive viewers into a profitable audience.

This case study outlines a strategy that generated over $9,000 by leveraging Facebook and Adsterra Direct Links for one of Adsterra’s successful publishers from Nigeria — Jeremiah Yahaya.

Groups vs. Pages: Facebook Traffic to Earn Over $9k With Adsterra Smartlink

Jeremiah’s FB Groups

Jeremiah is highly experienced with Facebook groups, having managed over 15 groups, including eight that he has owned and built from scratch himself.

He rented the other seven from other admins, who allowed free posting in their groups. Typically, rent is paid on a monthly basis, as agreed upon beforehand.

Renting groups helps reach a bigger audience, which brings more blog traffic and higher Adsterra earnings. More members usually mean more clicks and more money.

This case study includes two group examples:

  1. Asoebi Collection: This is the group that Jeremiah built from the ground up, now boasting over 500,000 members. It targets Nigerian women and others who love Asoebi fashion, wedding styles, and event planning. Asoebi is a traditional outfit worn by friends or family at events to show unity. The group serves as inspiration for asoebi designs and discussions.
  2. Angel Unigwe TV: A fan group for Nigerian actress Angel Unigwe. It has over 770k members, growing steadily through fun posts and fan interaction.

Creating a Group

When choosing between forming a new group or acquiring an existing one with members, both options can be effective. It depends on your money and goals.

Starting a group from zero takes time. You may wait months before you start earning well. However, if you have the funds and don’t want to wait, you can purchase a group or page that already has members.

Just think carefully and choose what is best for you.

Growing Your Group

If you want to grow your group from the beginning, here are some helpful tips. Growing a Facebook group takes planning, time, and effort.

Whether it’s for business or a personal interest, these steps can help you grow your group more effectively and efficiently.

Group Purpose

Before starting a group, know why you’re creating it. It could be for your brand, for fun (like posting memes), or for blogging. Whatever the reason, make it clear to the audience. This case is focused on groups created for blogging.

A few more aspects depend on the group’s purpose. Here are the essential steps before you start promoting the group and inviting new members:

  1. Choose the correct name. The group name should clearly indicate its purpose. Let’s see some examples from Jeremiah:
  • For a fashion brand: Jerry Fashion World, Style with Jerry
  • For memes: Land of Memes, Home of Laughter
  • For a celebrity fan group (e.g., someone called King Jerry): King Jerry Fans, People Who Love King Jerry
  1. Optimize group settings accordingly. Settings are essential for growing your group effectively. You can do it in a few simple actions:
  • A clear and strong description with keywords: write a short description to explain what your group is about. Use simple keywords and SEO tricks so people can find your group when they search on Facebook.
  • Good cover photo: the cover photo is basically like a logo of the group. Ensure it aligns with your group’s name and purpose. It should look nice and clear.
  • Add helpful tags: tags tell Facebook what your group is about. This helps Facebook show your group to people who like similar content.

Bringing In The Target Audience

When starting your group, invite friends who really care about the topic.

Don’t just add anyone — choose people who enjoy and understand what the group is about. It’s better to have fewer active members than many who don’t join in or just follow but never engage.

Once your first group of members joins, ask them to bring in more friends who share the same interest. This helps the group grow with the right kind of people.

A winning tactic for growth from Jeremiah

Here’s a smart idea: invite 50 to 100 friends to your group. If they all join, that’s a good start. Then, post fun and helpful content often. You can also run small contests to keep members active.

Next, ask those 50–100 members to invite 10–20 more friends each. Offer a small reward to members who invite others. If everyone brings just 10 people, your group can quickly grow by 500 or more members.

This trick helped Jeremiah get 3,000 members in one of his groups. However, another traffic generation method brought Jeremiah’s group to 20,000 followers. He also shared it in this case study.

Attracting New Users

After getting some members, start posting fun and useful content that they enjoy. Share posts that are funny, helpful, or interesting. Ask your members to also share the posts in other groups that talk about the same topic.

Sharing in big, similar groups is a smart trick. People who see your post in those groups are already interested in your topic, so they may also join your group.

Simple Trick That Worked

To grow from 3,000 to 20,000 group members, Jeremiah didn’t just sit back and wait for people to share his content. He started to share each post in 5–15 similar groups himself.

This brought 300–500 new members every day, reaching 20k members in a month. Then, these new members also started sharing, further skyrocketing the group to 100k in the following two weeks.

However, the right sharing tactics aren’t the only contributing factor. The growth occurred quickly and easily, partly because the posts were enjoyable and people regularly engaged with them.

This resulted in high activity, and Facebook algorithms recommended the group to more users.

Jeremiah also used incentivized activities: he could give prizes or small gifts to members who helped share the posts to other groups. This keeps the audience active and eager to grow the group as well.

1. Go Live to Talk With Group Members

Using Facebook Live is a great way to connect with your group in real-time. It helps members feel close to you, like friends or family. When people feel this way, they are more likely to like, comment, and share your posts.

2. Create Polls to Keep Members Active

Polls are fun and useful. You can ask members to post about a topic, then choose the best takes. After that, make a poll so others can vote for the winner. This keeps the group fun and builds trust between you and the members.

3. Analyze Facebook Insights to Track Growth

After trying these steps for a few weeks, check your Facebook group insights. See what works best, and keep doing it. The secret to success is to stay patient, be consistent, and keep working hard.

News to Get Views

Facebook groups are great for getting traffic. To turn a group into a money-maker, posting trending news is key.

Focus on popular updates, especially celebrity news and gossip, especially in your country. This is what worked spectacularly for Jeremiah.

After finding a hot story, write about it on a blog. A good and free tool to use is Blogger.com, which is easy to get started with.
